Self-Styled Godman Booked for Sexual Harassment of 17 Delhi Students, On the Run

New Delhi, Sept 24 (Point of India):

Delhi Police has booked self-styled godman Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, also known as Parth Sarthy, following multiple allegations of sexual harassment by students at a management institute in the capital. Despite extensive raids and surveillance, the accused remains absconding.

The complaint was initially filed on August 4 at Vasant Kunj North Police Station. According to police, the accused held a key administrative role as a sanchalak (management committee member) at Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management, located in Vasant Kunj.

32 Students Come Forward

Police have recorded statements from 32 female PGDM students at the institute, all of whom were studying under the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) scholarship. Of these, 17 students alleged that the godman used abusive language, sent obscene messages, and made unwanted physical advances.

Alarmingly, investigators said that some faculty members — including women — allegedly pressured students to comply with Saraswati’s inappropriate demands.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. At least 16 victims have deposed before a magistrate so far, police confirmed.

Fake Diplomatic Car Found in Basement

During the probe, police discovered a Volvo car with a forged diplomatic number plate (39 UN 1) in the institute’s basement. The car was allegedly used by the accused. A separate FIR was lodged on August 25, and the vehicle has been seized.

Authorities suspect the car may have been used to evade scrutiny or impersonate international status. Efforts are ongoing to determine the full extent of its use.

Religious Body Distances Itself

In a significant development, the Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, with which Saraswati was previously associated, has publicly severed all ties with him.

“Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, formerly known as Swami (Dr.) Parthasarathy, has engaged in activities that are illegal, inappropriate, and detrimental to the interests of the Peetham,” the statement said.

The Peetham clarified that while the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management-Research operates under its name with AICTE approval, it is now run by a separate Governing Council chaired by Dr. Krishna Venkatesh, a well-regarded educationist. The Council has assured that student welfare is being prioritized and that academic operations will continue uninterrupted.

Manhunt Underway

Police say they have formed multiple teams to trace the absconding godman. Raids are being conducted at his known locations in Delhi and nearby states. Airport surveillance has also been increased to prevent him from fleeing the country.

Digital evidence, including call records and obscene messages, has been collected and is currently under analysis. Investigators are also cross-verifying statements from students, faculty, and staff.

“The allegations involve multiple victims and are of a serious nature. We are pursuing the case on priority,” said a senior police officer.

As of now, Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati remains at large, and authorities urge the public to share any information that may assist in his apprehension.
