Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Allotted Official Residence on Raj Niwas Marg

New Delhi: More than 100 days after taking charge as Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta has finally been allotted her official residence in Civil Lines.

Officials said the search for a suitable residence had been ongoing for some time, with the location’s proximity to the Delhi Secretariat at ITO and central government offices being a key factor in the decision.

According to officials, Gupta has been assigned two adjoining bungalows, 1/8 and 2/8 Raj Niwas Marg. One will serve as her residence, while the other will be used as her camp office. Until now, she had been working from her private home in Shalimar Bagh, her constituency.

The allotment ends a long wait for the Chief Minister, with location being a key factor — Civil Lines is close to the Delhi Secretariat at ITO and other government offices.

Several other senior leaders have also been allotted official houses in the area. Social Welfare Minister Ravi Indraj Singh resides at bungalow number 3/8, while Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht has been given bungalow 4/8. Education Minister Ashish Sood has been allotted a residence at Limaye Marg in Chanakyapuri, and Law Minister Kapil Mishra at Shamnath Marg.

The Civil Lines bungalows are considered prime ministerial residences, featuring four bedrooms, a front lawn, spacious living and drawing areas, an outhouse, and staff quarters. Gupta’s immediate neighbours will be Minister Singh and Deputy Speaker Bisht.

Notably, Gupta has declined to move into the sprawling bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road, once occupied by her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal. The residence had been labelled a “Sheesh Mahal” by the BJP because of its costly renovations.

Earlier this year, the Public Works Department (PWD) floated a tender worth nearly ₹60 lakh for renovations at Gupta’s new residence, covering electrical fittings, appliances, and civil works. However, in July 2025, the department canceled the tender after criticism, citing administrative reasons.

With this allotment, Gupta joins her cabinet colleagues and senior leaders in Civil Lines — an area often described as the administrative hub of Delhi politics.
